I can’t believe we’re only 2 weeks away from Christmas!! This year has definitely flown by, I feel like it was just summer two weeks ago. Or maybe that was just Texas weather being Texas weather? Anywho! In honor of “Throwback Thursday” I wanted to share a story from Christmas past as well as an adorable picture of me and my middle sister.
In case you didn’t know, I’m the oldest of four but I grew up with my mom and middle sister. My parents split up when I was young and my father married his second wife and started a family with her, giving me 2 half-siblings and 2 additional siblings that aren’t necessarily blood related but I call sister and brother. Confused? I hope not. So, I grew up with my mom and my sister, Mica, and my mom was really big on having professional holiday pictures taken of us. I’ll share a few with y’all over the next few weeks, along with a fun throwback story.
Left: Me Right: Mica
I think I was about 3 in this picture and that would set us right around the time Mica decided that she was going to sit in my biggest Christmas present of the year while it was being assembled by our mom and an older cousin. I got a pink Barbie corvette that Christmas and Mica decided that she should’ve gotten it and proceeded to plop down in it and stay in it most of the night while my mom and cousin Jamie did the little bit of assembly that it required and got the battery charged so that I could ride it the next day. My mom always joked that Mica was in the car for at least 3 hours fighting sleep and everything! She finally passed out around 11PM and Jamie carried her to bed.
This wouldn’t be the first time Mica decided that she wanted something that was mine. My paternal grandma made each grandchild (and now great-grandchild) their own “Linus” blanket and I didn’t find this out until maybe 5 years ago, but the blanket that I thought was mine was actually made for Mica! Mica decided that she liked mine better so my parents swapped them! Mica carried that blanket for years…YEARS…and later passed it on to her son. Its all tattered now, but it’s still around.
Wow I went off on a bit of a tangent there, sorry! What about y’all? Any fun holiday stories from your childhood? Comment below and let me know!
