It’s back!!! I’m so happy Helene brought this back again this year. Here are some of my favorite songs from this year in no particular order:
1. Taylor Swift – Selections from ‘1989’: This album is so life-giving! Taylor doesn’t have the best voice (especially not live), but her team knows what to do to make sure that she stays at the top of the charts. These are just a few of my favorites from the new album. I couldn’t choose just one so we’re just gonna this as a collection.
2. Beyonce feat. Nicki Minaj – “Flawless Remix”: Beyonce is rapping and included the band breakdown from the live show on this track. That is all.
3. Nick Jonas – “Numb” & “Jealous Remix feat. Tinashe”: Nick Jonas has come back, this time as a solo artist and is changing the game. “Jealous” is everywhere and he has a million and one versions of it. I like this version because he’s cursing (sue me) and I love “Numb”. This new album is a good look for him.
4. Maroon 5 feat. J. Cole – “Animals” Remix: This is another catchy song and I thought the hamster commercial was too cute! Then they went and did a remix with one of my favorite rappers! Yes.
5. Kem – “Promise to Love”: This song is beautiful. I’m not sure when I’m getting married, but this song will definitely be played at the reception.
6. T-Pain – “Up Down”: This song reminded me of undergrad. T-Pain was big back then and channeled that for this song. Plus, he did it live and acoustically.
7. Sia – “Chandelier”: I’ve been a fan of hers for years but I think this song got her noticed by everyone.
8. Usher – “Good Kisser”: This is the Usher we’ve been missing. This song sounded like it could’ve been on ‘Confessions’ or ‘8701’. It was way better than that mess that was his last album.
9. Jesse McCartney – “In Technicolor Part I & II”: I know these songs (and this album) wasn’t really that mainstream, but they were a good look for JMac. After that mess that happened with the last album not being released, I’m happy he’s back making music.
10. Ariana Grande feat. Childish Gambino – “Break Your Heart Right Back”: I don’t know if it was the sample that they used, Gambino’s channeling Ma$e for part of his verse or him referencing how nasty school lunches were when we were growing up, but this song is my ish!
11. I LOVE MAKONNEN feat. Drake – “Tuesday”: This song was completely under the radar until Drake jumped on it, then it blew up and was everywhere! It’s inspired a phrase that my friends and I use on a regular basis now, and is even nominated for 2 Grammy’s! And this little girl has the cutest dance!
12. Ed Sheeran – “Thinking out Loud”: This was a big year for this young sir! This song is beautiful (the video is too), and it’s another one I wouldn’t mind being played at my weeding.
13. Imagine Dragons feat. Kendrick Lamar – “Radioactive remix”: They killed this performance at the Grammy’s this year. I love this song!
14. Michael Jackson feat. Justin Timberlake – “Love Never Felt So Good”: The King and Prince of Pop music. Does anything else need to be said? I don’t think so.
