I have so many things on my mind this morning; I don’t even know where to begin. This post might be a bit all over the place, you’ve been warned.
I. Instacart – I found out about this service earlier this week while watching the morning news and I decided to give it a try today. I don’t know about y’all, but I am an impulse shopper especially when I’m hungry! I was able to write down a grocery list and stick to it with this and they’ll deliver the groceries right to my door! I didn’t see a difference in price online vs in store and even saved $10 with a coupon code! They require a minimum of $10 per order, and you’re then matched with a personal shopper who buys your food and then delivers it to you as quickly as a hour! They’re running a promotion now, your first delivery of $50 or more is free! I placed my order this morning and was originally going to have it delivered to my office, but after I placed it I read on their blog that they added new zip codes to their delivery areas in Houston. I found out that they deliver to my house and with the help of an amazing CSR, Josh, I was able to get my delivery address and time changed! He was so helpful and responded to my emails very quickly! I get excited about the little things so I’m really excited about this, and if all goes well I can see myself doing this from here on out. They’re currently only partnered with 3 stores in Houston: HEB, Whole Foods and Costco but that’s fine with me because I love HEB! I’ve already recommended the service to a few of my co-workers and I wanted to spread the good news on here. Give them a try!
II. Shindigs – I had a shindig at my place last Friday for my cousin’s last day at her previous place of employment (yay for bigger and better opportunities) and I had so much fun that I’m throwing another one tonight. My friend Marc called me last night and asked what I thought about hosting another one and I was like “sure!”. This makes two for me this weekend, but that’s okay. I like having the company over.
III. Apple iPhone 6 – I’m kind of underwhelmed with the announcement that was made this week. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve had all of those things on my previous Android phones, but I think I’m gonna pass on getting the iPhone 6 for my personal phone. I am looking forward to the iOS update, I miss being able to swype and I need Swiftkey back.
IV. Grammar Police?? – I watched the ‘Brittany Murphy’ movie on Lifetime earlier this week and saw this:
Now I don’t know about y’all but that doesn’t look right to me. I was taught that if something ended in a ‘s’ all you had to do was add the apostrophe to show ownership. Is that different for a proper noun like a name? English majors/English teachers help me out!!
V. Ray & Janay Rice – I was talking about this with my Lyft driver yesterday and I wanted to share something we discussed on here. I don’t think that was the first time he put his hands on her. He was entirely too nonchalant when he was pulling her out of the elevator and afterwards. I was taught that no man should ever put his hands on a woman, period. Domestic violence is something else that is deemed as taboo and isn’t often discussed, but that needs to change. The victim is never at fault for their abuse. Never. A lot of people were outraged when they found out that not only did she marry him after that incident, but she defended him on social media after he was suspended from the NFL. All I have to say is that there are many reasons why a person stays in an abusive relationship. People often say that only a “weak minded” person would stay in a terrible relationship like that, but I don’t think that’s the case. Franchesca Ramsey posted a blog post on UpWorthy that reminded me a lot of what I’ve heard while volunteering with domestic violence victims. I applaud the NFL for making an example out of Ray, but I think it’s now time for them to take it one step further. Don’t turn a blind eye because the media hasn’t gotten a hold of a player beating his significant other, if a NFL rep sees something they should say something. Hold these guys accountable for their actions. People often speak out against Chris Brown, but make no mention of Brian McKnight, Bebe Winans and quite a few other guys who we know have beaten their wives/girlfriends. The silence needs to stop.
2. Shindigs are so fun. We used to have lots of gatherings before almost all of my friends moved away.
3. I'm sticking with Android. Me likey.
4. It's technically correct. Both s' and s's are considered acceptable.
5. It's definitely NOT the first time he laid a hand on her. You don't go from never touching someone to knocking them out cold. It's such a sad situation and you're right. More attention needs to be paid to other people that have been guilty of domestic violence too. We need to stop letting them get away with it.
