I’ve gone back and forth about whether I wanted to speak about this on my blog. I feel like everyone else has and I didn’t want to sound like a broken record, but then I remembered that my voice matters and that these type of situations need all the exposure they can get.
Now I don’t know about Missouri laws, but I know that in Texas a police officer’s last resort is their gun. Officers here have to exhaust their words, batons, and tasers before they even think about using their department issued weapon when it comes to pursuing someone. Either way, that wasn’t the case here. This child, and yes I mean a child, was unarmed and raising his arms in surrender when he was gunned down. If that wasn’t enough of a travesty, his dead was left in the streets for hours!
Black lives matter.
Mike Brown was killed in cold blood and I’m happy that the FBI is opening an investigation, but it shouldn’t have to come to that.
Black lives matter.
Eric Garner didn’t need to be taken down by 5 officers in Staten Island. I understand that he was a big guy, but they didn’t have to put him in a choke-hold and keep him in one even after he said he couldn’t breathe.
Black lives matter.
Don’t even get me started on Trayvon Martin.
Black lives matter. Brown lives matter. All lives matter.
