I’ll be linking up with Helene and Sarah again on this latest installment of #TotalSocial. This month’s post is pretty fun, it’s geared towards what I do outside of blogging.
This should really be ‘7 to 4:30’ for me, but hey who’s being technical. I really like the topic of this month’s #TotalSocial, it’ll be nice to see what some of my favorite bloggers do to pay the bills.
I’m currently working in commercial real estate and if you’d have asked me 5 years ago where I saw myself this particular field wouldn’t be it. I’m finishing up my Masters in Criminal Justice and had plans for years to work in that field, particularly for the DEA in their organized crime division. Little did I know that that would all change after a temp placement at one of the largest commercial real estate companies worldwide.
I started off as a temp receptionist in Feb 2012 and in less than 2.5 years I’ve been made a permanent employee and promoted twice! I’ve worked in property management and am currently the project management admin. I like both, but really love the property management/facilities management department. I’m a people person and I love the relationships we have with our tenants and clients. I plan on moving back over to the property management side and probably finishing my career on that side. There’s so much room for growth and that’s something that I love about this field and this company.
My typical work day consists of managing work requests from tenants, entering and managing contracts and invoices from our vendors and contractors and the day-to-day meetings. I have long days, but they’re fun and I feel like I’m always learning. There are also quite a few perks that come with being in this field.
I’m able to have these little munchkins at my desk for me to look at whenever I miss them (like now since they’re currently visiting their paternal grandparents)
All the K-Cups and coffee I could ever need to make it through the day.
Getting to see my favorite mascot up close and in person at least once a year.
Yearly trips from our rugby team…hiyo!
Beautiful sights like this when it rains.
The opportunity to take as many desk #selfies as I want…and the occasional mirror selfie.
I get to correct co-workers’ bad decisions.
I get to tap into my creative side. I designed that graphic for our Energy & Transportation Fair this year and last year.
I get to work so hard on my computer that 14 of the keys on my keyboard either have missing parts of the letters or don’t have any letters on them at all. This is actually an older pic, it’s much worse now. Let’s just say that you have to know how to type if you’re going to get on my computer. Haha!
Our new convenience store allows me to get my Icee fixes when I need them.
Sweet co-workers who decorate your desk on your birthday.
But in all seriousness, I love what I do and I’m happy that I’m in this field. I can really see myself retiring from the commercial real estate field. I plan on getting my real estate license and even relocating within the company. I’d love to find out what your #9To5TotalSocial is, so go ahead and link-up!
