I wore my curls out on Monday and again yesterday and received so many compliments, I was even told by my boss that I should put that style in my regular hair style rotation. I don’t wear my curls out too often because they don’t always do what I want them to do, but on Sunday I decided that I didn’t want to tame the beast and threw a few twists in and let my hair air dry.
I try to wash my hair once a week (usually Saturday nights or early Sunday morning since it takes so long for my hair to dry) and I’ll do a protective style. I’ve been doing a lot of up-dos since they’re easiest and I can get them to last a few days no matter what kind of weather we get here in Houston.
My sister calls this my “Celie” look, but I like it.
There’s a process to washing, detangling and styling natural hair and I’ve seen this meme floating around online and it’s partially true.
To be completely honest, I’ve used a few of the products in the picture above in my hair. I use EVOO in my deep conditions, I’ve cracked a few eggs, put some mayo and even poured a beer (lager) over my hair. Many women who have natural hair are self proclaimed PJs or Product Junkies and I was that at one point in my life. I now have a group of staples that I use, my holy grails, for my hair.
I use this along with L’Oreal’s Pure Natural Shampoo when I want to do an actual wash and not just a co-wash. More often than not I just do a co-wash (washing my hair with just conditioner) because I need that moisture in my hair.
2 – Aussie Moist Conditioner
I love this stuff. I swear by it! I used to buy the smaller bottles of this, but stopped lying to myself over about 2 years ago and only buy the bigger bottles. My hair loves this conditioner, it has great slip for detangling and it smells so good!

3 – African Pride Olive Miracle Leave-In Conditioner
This is a recent HG product for me. I was looking for a good leave-in a few months ago and I’ve read a some good reviews on this product so when I spotted it in Wal-mart for about $5 I snatched it up. I’m still on my first tub, but I can already tell that I’m going to stick with this product. It moisturizes my hair and is great for hair style refreshes. Oh, and this smells good too! It reminds me of the smell of bubblegum and whenever I put it in my hair I always find myself singing “Strawberry Bubblegum” by Justin Timberlake.
4 – Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel
I bought a big tub of this gel last year and I haven’t even made a dent in it. A little bit goes a long way. I only use this when I do wash ‘n go’s and when I do twist-outs to hold my curls and hold in the moisture. I’ve also used it when doing a slick puff pony.
(twist out I did last year)
I loved my hair so much on Monday that I snapped the first picture that I posted in this post and made it my profile picture on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Hey, when you find a picture you like you’ve gotta put it everywhere! #bloggerprobz
