Tuneage Tuesday: Idina Menzel at the Academy Awards
I don’t know about you guys but I stayed up until 11pm on Sunday night to watch the Oscars. I’m not going to turn this into another Oscar recap, but one of the main reasons why I watched was to see Idina Menzel perform “Let it Go” live. It was like it became a hit overnight and within a few weeks had quite a few covers on Youtube.
Idina has a powerhouse voice, I loved her in ‘Wicked’ and ‘Rent’; and she was perfect as Rachael Berry’s mom on ‘Glee’. I just knew she was going to bring the house down during her performance. Apparently the producers for the Academy Awards thought the same thing because they saved her performance for last. Now I don’t know exactly what happened, she said that she was nervous on the red carpet earlier but this woman has been on Broadway numerous times and has done TV work too. I don’t know if it was John Travolta butchering her name….
Who is that John?
(I love the internet!!)
…but I expected so much greatness when the camera panned to Idina.
I had my remote in my hand ready to sing along, but I don’t think she was ready. She was nervous, you could hear it in her voice, see her mic shaking and she rushed the entire song.
At one point she started tapping her foot, but I don’t think that helped either. I blame it on nerves because the woman is incredibly talented!! So many classic roles too!
Rent & Wicked and most recently Glee!
If you don’t believe me take a listen below. I’ve compiled a few of my favorite tracks by her.
I love Idina Menzel!! She has such a powerful voice and unfortunately we did not get to hear it at its best during that performance. It did sound rushed and she looked flustered from the beginning. I'm sure the name slaying by Travolta didn't help with her nerves either. I absolutely LOVED her in Rent!!
