I’m not sure if I’ve said it on my blog before but I don’t plan on renewing my lease at my current apartment complex. There are a few amenities that I need to have in a home that this community doesn’t provide so in February I’ll be signing a lease at another property. When I decided I wanted to move out of my parents’ home last year I got an apartment locator and did the same thing this time. I was actually recommended my apartment locator by a co-worker and I must say that the man is a God-send. I sent him a short…well medium list of requirements for a place and after a few phone calls and exchanged emails he sent me back a list of 23 places in a 10 mile radius of the area of town I’m looking to live in. I scrolled through the list and checked out most of the properties online and ended up adding quite a few of them to my running Excel document of communities I’m considering and yesterday I got the chance to check out a few.
It turns out that 4 of the communities are about 10 minutes from where I currently live and I was able to visit 3 (and would’ve been able to visit all 4 if I would’ve found the leasing office for the last community). The first property I stopped by, Montebello Gardens was a nice community, but the leasing manager there was downright rude! I couldn’t get a request in to look at the property before she was like “We don’t have any show apartments available.” And when I told her the date I wanted to move in she turned up her nose before going in the office and checking for vacancies. I stayed cordial and kept it short. I also crossed that community off my list. I can tell when someone doesn’t want me around and that’s the vibe I was getting from her.
We left and ended up going to two other properties that I really like and their leasing managers were so nice and helpful! I’ve pushed those to properties up towards the top of my list of considerations and am now weighing the options of the changes in satellite and Internet provider contracts that would be required to move in to one of the properties that I really liked.
Have any of y’all had to change cable/satellite providers or Internet providers in moving to another community? If so, what’s the best way to go about doing that?
