Okay, on Thursday I told y’all that I’d have a full review of Justin’s new album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ on Tuesday and here it is! The album officially dropped today, but it’s been streaming on iTunes since last week…and the Target bonus tracks even leaked. I’ve been continuously bumping this album since iTunes released the stream, so it’s no surprise that I’ll be purchasing 2 physical copies and a digital copy of it. I wanted to do a track by track review and since this album…or this volume of it since according to Questlove there’s going to be another installment dropping in November.
Anywho!! Let’s get down to this review!
1. Pusher Love Girl – I loved this song when he did it live at the Grammy’s and the snippet of the track that I heard from his pre SuperBowl concert. I feel like it was a bit faster when he performed it live, but I still like it. I actually like the B-side of this track better than the actual song. I feel like that could’ve been a song of it’s own. I’m actually happy that most of these songs average 7 minutes. I was kind of disappointed when we got the tracklist for this album and only saw 10 songs (not including the Target bonus tracks), but when I saw how long they were all was well back in my world.
2. Suit & Tie – There isn’t much more for me to say about this song. I actually had the same reaction to this song as I did when Sexyback first dropped. It had to grow on me and now I love it. I don’t know if it’s the Houstonian in me, but I like the slowed down, chopped & screwed parts better than the up tempo sections.
3. Don’t hold the wall – Umm…I’m kind of on the fence on this song. It screams Timbaland and there’s a lot going on on it. I feel like Justin doesn’t sing much, but when he does he sounds great. No falsetto on this track.
4. Strawberry Bubblegum – I immediately disliked this track. I don’t like the beginning and I’m allergic to strawberries so the title didn’t sit well me either (I know, petty), but the B-side of this song is growing on me.
5. Tunnel Vision – THIS IS MY FAVORITE TRACK ON THE ALBUM!!!! I really hope he makes this the next single!! There’s a lot going on, but it meshes well together. I especially like the B-side of this track.
6. Spaceship Coupe – This song seems like a continuation of ‘Nothing Else’ from his Justified album. The lyrics are along the same line as that track and it’s mellow. A lot of falsetto on this track.
7. That Girl – Another one of my favorites on the album. I wish this one was longer. I love the old school feel of it and this is Justin’s voice at its purest (in my opinion).
8. Let the Groove In – This sounds like a Ricky Martin/Gloria Estafan reject from the 90’s. I like it though. My hips immediately start moving when it comes on. I don’t see it as a single though.
9. Mirrors – What can I say about this song that I haven’t said before? I love it. This was the song that got me excited for this album.
10. Blue Ocean Floor – This song is kind of eerie, but calming at the same time. I think its gonna have to grow on me.
