[cue’s up the Toni Tone Tony track]
This past Sunday was my first anniversary with Chuck and we decided to get away for the weekend to celebrate it. We’d toyed around with the idea of going to Dallas, but soon figured out that there wouldn’t be much to do there that we couldn’t do in town; so it was decided that Austin would be the destination for our anniversary roadtrip.
Getting out of Houston was absolute hell on Saturday!! It took him an extra hour to get from his place to mine because of standstill traffic on 288. Ugh!! The streets were even packed with people trying to take back roads. I knew that I picked a good weekend to get away, I did not want to be in town dealing with all this mess from the All Star Game. People were out in swarms trying to get a glimpse of someone famous and I was over it!
(not someone famous, just a guy and his goat)
I was checking out my Instagram and Twitter feeds while we were on the road and there were numerous pictures of the galleria being packed to the gills (and looking like they were breaking all kinds of fire safety rules) with people. I saw pictures of stores that this famous person or that famous person shut down so that they could shop in privacy and couldn’t believe my eyes. I don’t remember much about the last time the All Star Game was here in town in 2006, but I do remember the crowds then and I didn’t want to be apart of that again. So we packed up our bags and skipped town.
I’m lucky to have snagged such a romantic guy, someone who took the reins and planned just about everything for this trip.
The only thing I really had a hand in planning beforehand was booking the room and reserving our massages. While we were there it felt like surprise after surprise after surprise. He would ask me if I was comfortable doing the activity he had planned or if I would prefer to do something else, but for the most part we did the activities he planned. It was great to get away from life for a little while and get lost in each other. We stayed in the Arboretum area, but ventured to SoCo for sight-seeing and food and even went to the mall because he wanted a Texans fitted. This boy right here.
We got massages and felt uber relaxed and went out for Mexican food, and I didn’t know what to order to drink since I’ve given up margaritas and rum for lent. So when our waiter, Doug came and asked what I wanted to drink I said the first thing that popped into my head, “Vodka & Coke”. The confused looks I got from Chuck and Doug were priceless. I still have no clue why I said that, I’ve never mixed those two beverages before. Doug then recommended Bourbon and Coke or Whiskey and Coke and I told him that my “life wasn’t that hard”. That’s when it hit me that I could just order a Budweiser, so I did. Yeah, I’m that girl. Haha!!
We visited the capital (read: drove by, I’ve been there before), and we didn’t even hit up 6th street! That was a first for the both of us actually. That’s usually a staple for me, but I guess we weren’t really in the mood for that scene this weekend.
I use Foursquare like nobody’s business when I go out, I love checking into places and seeing deals that they have available, and I love that he encouraged me (and even checked into a few places on Facebook himself) this weekend.
(yummy french toast from Monday morning at Omlettry)
I rained something terrible for the entire trip back on Monday, only making me even more sad to come back from our weekend of fun. Ugh!!
It was so weird not waking up next to him on Tuesday morning, and I’m already looking forward to this weekend.
(he didn’t want to come back home either)
Oh!!! I did the ‘2 truths and a lie’ link-up yesterday and I wanted to give y’all the corrrect answers:
I do have the same name as one of my best friends, Jasmine. We used to go as far as dressing alike in middle school and confusing teachers and principals when they would say “Jazmyn/Jasmine tuck your shirt in” and we’d turn around and laugh saying “Which one?” We were so silly!
I did not spend the night in a graveyard, I barely lasted an hour there. It got creepy!!
I did go on a trip with 100 other people from the university to support one of my RAs to LA when he was on ‘Deal or No Deal’. NBC covered a nice chunk of the expenses and the university covered the rest. He won over $200,000 and we were sworn to secrecry for months until it aired…he even threw a viewing party!!
Boo's Basket says
Looks like such fun !!
