I went and saw ‘Catch Me If You Can’ on Tuesday night and really enjoyed myself. My friend Megan emailed me on Friday told me that she had tickets to the opening night and tickets to the cast party. I was beyond thrilled!! That’s one of my favorite movies, like ever! Leo was amazing in it and so was Tom; and the fact that it’s a true story made it that much more amazing.
My first question was how were they going to turn this movie that had no musical plot to it into a musical. Well they did that, and did it well. All the key plots of the story were hit and the cast was beyond exceptional. I personally loved the “Live in Living Color” reprises that were done throughout the show, along with the song Brenda sang about being his alibi after he took off in New Orleans. The show was tasteful, perfect for the family.
The band was even on point, they had 2 flutists (for those who don’t know that’s the instrument I play), and one of the flutists also played the alto sax and oboe!! That was the first thing I pointed out during the intermission and my friends weren’t surprised by that at all. In fact, Dara said she knew that I’d mention something about the band. What can I say? Once a band nerd, always a band nerd.
The show was great, but there was also some entertainment in the crowd. There were sequins everywhere! Like ‘Golden Girl’ sequins. And one woman was in a track suit. Now I know that we weren’t seeing a show on Broadway or anything, but a track suit?
I digress.
Like I stated earlier, the show was phenomenal and I’m so happy that I got to go and truly enjoyed the experience with my girls. I think my next show is going to be Jersey Boys.
Are any of y’all going to see ‘Catch Me If You Can’ here in town? Or any other shows? Feel free to leave a comment and let me know.
