Remember simpler times? When we were younger and could belt out “A Whole New World” or “My Heart Will Go On” into our hair brushes and pretend that we were singing to an audience of thousands?
Well for some reason I had the urge to do that today. Except I’m at work and can’t find a hair brush to sing into. I’ve settled on singing (softy) or lip syncing “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” along with a few other old favorites at my desk. I don’t know about y’all but I love that hearing the right song has the power to change my entire mood. I love that I can hear a track and instantly be transported to ___ summer or ___ football game or whatever.
Music’s always been a big part of my life, always. Whether it was singing while I was cleaning up, performing for my dolls, playing my flute, singing in church or rocking out in the car I’ve always had a strong connection to music.
It was there to comfort me when my mom passed and I’m forever grateful for that. I remember putting on my headphones and just getting lost in whatever album I thought spoke to me best that day and cried.
Music was also there for me during happier times in life. Fanfares and marching band tracks always bring back memories of joy, marching on the field or conducting the band as a drum major.
But live music has always been my favorite.
I don’t know about y’all but I am a concert goer. I wish that I would’ve saved all my ticket stubs throughout the years, like made a shadowbox or something because I’m sure that I could fill a big one by now. Whether it be a local group at a tiny venue or seeing Drake in Toronto or following Justin Timberlake around Texas I love going to concerts.
I went to quite a few last year and I plan on continuing the tradition this year. I’m so happy that we have a great line-up for this year’s Houston Livestock and Rodeo, and I plan on hitting up quite a few of those shows. They’re all in Reliant Stadium and the best part about them is that the seats are uber cheap and no one cares because its not like we can sit on the floor with the artists anyway. The shows are usually right after some rodeo event and the stage is driven in and driven off after the show. That’s how I’m able to score tickets to see Bruno Mars, Demi Lovato, Jason Aldean, Lady A, and Blake Shelton. That’s $125 (plus taxes and fees of course), equal to or almost equal to what I’ve paid to see JT & Drake in the past. Crazy!!
I’m also going to see Pentatonix in March, a week after seeing Bruno actually. I’m excited too! Their cover of “Video Killed the Radio Star” is Chuck’s ringtone on my phone. Yes, “our” song is not the most romantic but it’s us. Haha!!
I’m going to see Drake again at the OVO Fest this summer; I think I’m going to make that trip a yearly thing.
I’m probably going to go to a few more shows this year, they just haven’t been announced yet. The most important of them being this guy:
I need Justin to hurry up and give us some tour dates.
