I posted this on my Facebook page and Tumblr blog, but I wanted to post it on here.
I’m touching on Rick Perry’s abortion doctrine in my Legal Liabilities paper that I’m working on. Finding out the details of this doctrine only made me dislike him more and stand firm on my opinion that he’s a misogynistic pig. Making a woman go through an invasive sonogram to see the fetus and hear it’s heartbeat. But that’s not even the best part! She then has to basically be told that she’s a horrible person for making the decision by a pro-life therapist. AND THEN SHE HAS TO WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE SHE CAN HAVE THE PROCEDURE! After all that, she has to wait a whole day to “think about” what she’s doing. As if she didn’t think about it before actually deciding to get the abortion. She’ll have to face protesters twice, face that emotional abuse twice. It’s completely unnecessary! I think that abortions and contraception are privacy matters that the government should stay out of; especially since government aid isn’t being used to fund said abortions. In my opinion Rick Perry’s worried about the wrong thing, he should be fighting to get Sex Ed back into schools. Teach more teenagers about contraception and pregnancy prevention. It’s not 1972 and this damn sure isn’t ‘Eisenstadt v. Baird’, and even if it was the Supreme Court ruled that it’s unconstitutional to intrude on someone’s privacy. Justice William Brennen said it best with “if the right of privacy means anything, it is the right of the individual, married or single, to be free from unwarranted governmental intrusion into matters so fundamentally affecting a person as the decision whether to bear or beget a child.”
What do y’all think?
