My love affair with glasses began when I was 12 years old and in the 7th grade. It started after my mom and I found out that the massive headaches I would get were being caused by fact that I didn’t have the best decision in the world and needed corrective lens.
My first pair of glasses were blue, rectangled and wired. I wore those glasses until the beginning of 9th grade when I went and got contacts due to the elaborate marching show we had that year, better known as ‘Metamorphosis’. We had a hip-hop section in the show that involved me taking off my shako and turning it backwards and then doing the choreography. Yeah, I told you it was elaborate! So for about 7 years I alternated wearing contacts and glasses, eventually getting another pair that were damn near identical to the first blue pair and then a black plastic pair.
It wasn’t until the end 2008 when I decided that I was going to do away with contacts completely. I wore the 2 week O2 breathable ones, but had a bad habit of forgetting that they were in there and often leave them in there well beyond the 2 weeks. I decided that I was going to stick with the one pair of glasses that I owned at the time. Fast forward to the beginning 2010 and to the day that I found out about Zenni Optical and Eye Buy Direct. Those websites are godsends!! They have full pairs of glasses starting as low as $7, and these aren’t the ugly frames either! Every pair of regular glasses I’ve purchased from the two websites have were $10 or less. Another plus is that you can turn any pair of glasses into a pair of sunglasses for just $5 more, and tint them whatever color you want them to be. I currently 6 pair of glasses, 5 purchased from Zenni Optical and Eye Buy Direct and the pair I got the summer before I went off to college for my freshman year…I can’t let go of that pair. Lol! I also have 3 pairs of prescription sunglasses that were about $15 each. The best part about the websites is that they do combined shipping, so whether you order 1 pair of glasses or 10 pairs it’s only going to be $4.95!
Now I know it sounds like I’m trying to pimp out these websites, but I promise I’m not. I just don’t want y’all to get tricked and bamboozled by companies like TSO and EyeMasters anymore. Go to them and get your eye exam and then take that prescription to online brokers like Zenni and Eye Buy Direct…they even have designer frames!
Just to prove a point that I don’t have any rundown kind of glasses I’m going to show y’all. Here are my 6 frames and an old picture of me when I wore contacts and had permed hair. *eek*
Please excuse the low quality of my webcam and lack of make-up, I took these quickly tonight. And two of the frames are the same size, but are different colors. One of is solid black and the other is a black and clear print, but it looks black and brown when I put it on because of my skin tone. As y’all can see I have cute frames and they were relative cheap! So please don’t get duped my any more of these companies. $99 is not a deal when you can get a similar pair for a fraction of the price.

PS: The sunglasses I’m wearing in the picture on the left side of my blog are one of the pairs I purchased from Zenni :]
